Kenpo 5.0
The Evolution of Modern Self-Defence • Developed by Master Jeff Speakman • Taught at KICKS Newington
Kenpo 5.0 is more than a martial art—it’s a complete personal development system designed for the challenges of today’s world. Developed by Master Jeff Speakman, Kenpo 5.0 builds upon the proven principles of American Kenpo while integrating modern striking, grappling, and ground survival strategies to create one of the most comprehensive self-defence systems available.
At KICKS Martial Arts, students develop confidence, resilience, discipline, and practical skills through a structured curriculum that prepares them for competition, personal growth, and real-world self-protection.
A Complete Martial Arts System
Forms & Sets
Forms and Sets are the foundation of Kenpo 5.0. They develop body mechanics, balance, coordination, timing, power generation, and precision while teaching the principles that underpin every movement.
Each form contains layers of knowledge that students continue to discover as they progress through the ranks—improving reaction time, fluidity, and technical understanding while building concentration, discipline, and mental focus.
Self-Defence Techniques
The self-defence curriculum is the heart of Kenpo 5.0. Students learn structured responses to a wide variety of attacks using angles, timing, leverage, body positioning, and continuous motion—not brute strength.
As students advance, they gain a deeper understanding of concepts that allow them to create effective solutions in unpredictable environments, making self-defence both practical and intelligent.
5.0 Fighter
The 5.0 Fighter program develops students through controlled, progressive sparring and competition-based training. Students learn to apply techniques against resisting opponents while developing timing, distance management, footwork, strategy, and composure under pressure.
The Fighter program bridges the gap between traditional technique practice and live application—building confidence through experience and preparing students for tournament competition.
5.0 Grappler
Modern self-defence cannot ignore the reality that many confrontations end up in close-range clinches or on the ground. The 5.0 Grappler curriculum equips students with practical skills to control, escape, and defend themselves during ground engagements.
Students develop positional awareness, escapes, transitions, submissions, control strategies, and methods of safely returning to their feet—making them adaptable in any real-world encounter.
